An organization called Organizing for America, otherwise known as OFA, will be holding “boot camps” with the “purpose of the training schedule is to educate attendees on OFA’s policies and our strategy for 2010.”
OFA is a project of the Democratic National Committee and is the successor organization to Obama for America. Obama for America helped get the then presidential candidate elected to office. Part of their goal is “to fight for a new kind of politics and a better future for our country.” according to their website.
A new kind of politics?
Most of the new kind of politics must be related to the same kind of politics we’ve seen from both sides of the aisle – Democrat or Republican. Promises during the campaign and then 180 reversals of those promises when it comes time for the rubber to meet the road.
OFA’s agenda “allows” for people to get involved in a variety of ways, including these from their website:
- Joining grassroots OFA campaigns to support the President’s agenda. Online, on the phone, on doorsteps and in town halls in communities across the country, we’re building the bottom-up support that makes real change possible.
- Spreading the word to friends and neighbors about the President’s approach on the big issues facing our nation, like health care, energy and education. Nothing is more powerful than your voice in your community.
- Serving our community in ways big and small. Rebuilding America starts today.
- Connecting with other supporters to form strong local groups, ready to take on whatever challenges we face.
- Supporting leaders who share our values and are ready to carry forward the fight for change .
One issue that OFA helped push and is continuing the fight for is on health care. The new health care law that was signed into law will, according to the OFA website, ” end the worst insurance company abuses, establish new rules that treat everyone fairly, and provide more choices and affordable health insurance for millions of Americans.” according to their website.
The problem is that this “new form of politics” doesn’t treat everyone fairly as Ohio Free Press has noted before. Nor does it provide more choices or affordable health insurance for millions of Americans. For some reason, Congress exempted themselves from this new “law” that treats everyone fairly. That’s fair? Why do they get a “get out of jail free card” when the rest of America does not. Maybe they know something the rest of us don’t and it isn’t as good as they say it is? Is this example of the new politics and how everyone is treated more fairly – except those in positions of power? It makes one wonder.
The Organizing for America group is putting on many of these camps to gather together people once again for 2010 to continue the push of unpopular bills like the health care bill that recently passed. And you can find some of these right here in Ohio and elsewhere around the country. Just within a 200 mile radius of where I write this article there are 34 events going on between now and March 10th. These events range from phone bank calling events, bus rally trips to Washington DC for climate change (and Cap and Trade), organizing volunteers, and my favorite, a gathering to watch Michael Moore’s “Capitalism: A Love Story” movie (which is anti-capitalism and asks if capitalism is a “sin”).
It is evident that the goal of OFA, as seen from their event schedule, is a massive movement to organize people to continue a radical agenda on health care reform, deconstruction of capitalism, unionism, and and everything else that apparently the majority of American’s really don’t want to see (according to recent polls like 56% of voters nationwide favor repeal of the health care legislation according to Rasmussen).
It will be interesting to see how OFA is involved with the November elections. Apparently that is what they are gearing up for if you read the OFA website. Will it become the replacement agency for ACORN? With the massive uneasiness with Washington’s current direction and ACORN all but incapacitated, the DNC needs all the help it can get. Utilizing OFA for voter registration would not seem out of the realm of possibility and that is what apparently some of the “training events” are designated to include.
Welcome to the new politics for 2010. Whether you like it or not.
