US Violent Crime Rates Down 50% – Lower than Britain!

This makes a lot of sense… but when does logic and facts make for good agendas? All the data is taken directly from the FBI government website and Britain’s Home Office website. This is NOT what most media outlets are reporting. Why?

Texas School District Allows Teachers to Conceal and Carry

At Harold ISD in Texas, they have allowed teachers to conceal and carry. David Thweatt logically spells out why they are allowing teachers to carry weapons on their campus. The reasoning? They are 30 minutes from law enforcement and their teachers are the first line of defense. And there are more than just one teacher carrying. The reasoning here is if only a security guard has a gun and he is killed, everyone else is dead. If one teacher is incapacitated, there are multiple others who can protect the children.

In addition, they point out that most shooters that commit these types of aggression do it in “gun free zones”.

The video is about 15 minutes long, but the reasoning for allowing this in the face of national scrutiny is extremely logical. It seems though on a national scale, logic is trumped by feelings and emotion.

Arming the Victims…

Conceal Carry for WisconsinIn the wake of the tragedy in Aurora, CO this past week there have been an ubiquitous call by firearm control advocates for the either the ban on large capacity magazines, the AR-15 rifle itself, and tighter restrictions on guns in general. The most gun restrictive mayor in the county, Mayor Bloomburg of New York,  is calling on President Obama and Mitt Romney to do something about it.

Here in Ohio there is no law against Open Carry.  Ohio Revised Code 9.68 protects individual rights to  open carry, and provide that uniform state laws regarding open carry supersede local ordinances on the ban of open or conceal carry.

Unfortunately, in the aftermath of such a tragedy where an individual decided to cause mass casualties, everyone is super-sensitive and it makes a prime political opportunity for gun control activists to try to get people to react on emotion and not reason. Continue reading Arming the Victims…

Documents: ATF used “Fast and Furious” to make the case for gun regulations

Documents obtained by CBS News show that the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) discussed using their covert operation “Fast and Furious” to argue for controversial new rules about gun sales.

In Fast and Furious, ATF secretly encouraged gun dealers to sell to suspected traffickers for Mexican drug cartels to go after the “big fish.” But ATF whistleblowers told CBS News and Congress it was a dangerous practice called “gunwalking,” and it put thousands of weapons on the street. Many were used in violent crimes in Mexico. Two were found at the murder scene of a U.S. Border Patrol agent.

ATF officials didn’t intend to publicly disclose their own role in letting Mexican cartels obtain the weapons, but emails show they discussed using the sales, including sales encouraged by ATF, to justify a new gun regulation called “Demand Letter 3″. That would require some U.S. gun shops to report the sale of multiple rifles or “long guns.” Demand Letter 3 was so named because it would be the third ATF program demanding gun dealers report tracing information.

Gun Company Creates Stir and Sales

** Update 1047am Friday December 2nd 2011. Apparently the web traffic USAammo.com’s website from the news coverage has increased to a point and crashed their server at one point after it went viral. You can view a cached copy as seen below at the end of this article.**

Friday December 2nd, 2011
USAammo.com, a gun supply, ammunition, and supplies store who mainly targets sales online has created quite a stir with a controversial ad campaign. The campaign compares president Obama in the same context as Hitler, Stalin, Chairman Mao, and others who implemented gun control and killed millions through the government repression that allowed for mass genocide and tyrannical government controls.

The ad states that governments render their citizens defenseless through gun control. “Liberty is perpetuated by armed citizens. An armed citizen can defend himself against threat and foe.” the video explains. “The defenseless are subject to enslavement, imprisonment, and annihilation. ”

Apparently, the idea was conceived and emailed out early this week to coincide with Cyber Black Monday. And it has created a stir nationally in the political field.

A First look at the Kagan Documents

June 4, 2010

By Carrie Severino

The first dump of documents from Elena Kagan’s years in the Clinton Administration came out today, and already her true colors on a host of hot-button political topics are starting to show through.  Here’s a survey of what these documents show:

  1. Guns.  There are lots of documents showing Kagan was in the loop and relevant to decisions on policy affecting gun rights.  A document she co-authored with Bruce Reed told the president they would be “outlining an aggressive strategy for administration officials and Democratic Members of Congress to press for quick passage of our gun control proposals…”  She lauded a “terrific” New York Times article that “perfectly” conveyed their intended message.  It described their strategy to push gun control legislation through as quickly as possible in the wake of the Littleton, CO school shootings before the NRA or Republicans could disrupt their momentum.

Mayor Daley Threatens to Shoot the Messenger—Namely, Me

Mayor Daley and gunsMayor Daley loves to bag on the local media, and given my recent line of inquiry into his politics and policies, I’ve never expected to be greeted with a fruit basket at City Hall.

But even I was a bit taken aback this morning when the mayor grabbed a rifle and threatened to shoot me.

The mayor was holding a press conference to discuss what the city was doing to prepare for the Supreme Court’s expected decision to overturn the city’s gun ban. The short answer: all sorts of things, but we’ll just have to wait until the court weighs in next month to find out the details. “We’re hoping for the best,” Daley said.

Guns are one of the mayor’s favorite soapbox topics—he regularly goes out of his way to point out that he despises gun manufacturers and “extremists” like the NRA. “It’s really amazing how powerful they are,” he said today, standing next to a table covered with handguns, rifles, and even a machine gun that police had seized. “They’re bigger than the oil industry, bigger than the gas industry, bigger than Google, bigger than President Obama and the rest of them.”

Daley also likes to highlight what he considers to be flagrant hypocrisy on the part of the defenders of gun rights. “Now you can’t walk into the Supreme Court—you have to walk in the side way. They’re going to barricade the doors or something now. I mean, they’re barricading the doors but they’re saying everyone else should have guns. That’s the thing that bothers me in Washington. As you know in Washington all things are being barricaded, all federal buildings. But they’re saying everybody else should be able to carry guns.”

But even supporters of tough gun regulations—myself included—have to admit that it’s not clear how much they reduce violence. Despite having some of the most restrictive laws in the country, Chicago is a national leader in shootings and murders, and the mayor himself noted that “we’ve seen far too many instances in the last few weeks” of firearm violence, including the shooting that left a cop dead last night.

So I asked: since guns are readily available in Chicago even with a ban in place, do you really think it’s been effective?

I’m hardly the only guy who asks the mayor things he doesn’t want to answer, and I’ve been responsible for at least one of his huffing, puffing, ranting tangents, which generally get the press corps laughing, thus enabling him to move on to the next question without giving a real answer to the one at hand.

But even by those standards, this was a masterful and surreal performance.

“Oh!” Daley said. “It’s been very effective!”

He grabbed a rifle, held it up, and looked right at me. He was chuckling but there was no smile.

“If I put this up your—ha!—your butt—ha ha!—you’ll find out how effective this is!”

For a moment the room was very, very quiet. I took a good look at the weapon. It had a long bayonet. (Was it seized during the Civil War?)

“If I put a round up your—ha ha!”

The photographers snapped away. Suddenly everybody started cracking up.

Daley went on. “This gun saved many lives—it could save your life,” he said—meaning, I think, that getting that gun off the street might have saved many lives, including mine.

And he went on some more. “We save all these guns that the police department seizes, you know how many lives we’ve saved? You don’t realize it. First of all, they’re taking these guns out of someone’s hands. They save their own life and they save someone else’s. You cannot count how many times this gun can be used. Thirty, forty times in shooting people and discharging a weapon. I think it’s very important.

“Next will be hand grenades, right? We’ll say that hand grenades are OK. I mean, how far can you go in regards to mass weapons? To me, any gun taken off saves thousands of lives in America. I really believe that, I don’t care what people tell me. You have to thank the police officers for seizing all these weapons. We lead the country in seizing weapons. This is unbelievable.”

I had to agree.

10 Reasons Why Obama Is Anti-Gun

Cam Edwards of NRANews gives 10 reasons why he believes Barack Obama would be a bad president for gun owners. This video/audio clip is from 2008 before the elections and is a good reminder on how President Obama has voted as a state senator and how he stands in relation to the second ammendment.

Ohio Newspaper Breaks the Law in Publishing Conceal Carry Permit Holders

Sandusky Register Conceal Carry ListAn Ohio newspaper, the Sandusky Register, published a list on their online website in 2007 revealing the names of Sandusky conceal and carry permit holders. Though at this time their website states that “The decision to make the lists available to readers was made by the Register’s managing editor” (at this time the managing editor is Karen Mork (on-line editor) but all inquiries are to be directed to Matt Westerhold). The Sandusky Register on June 6th, 2007 wrote the Ottowa County Sheriff Robert L Bratton requesting the list in the name of public interest. You can view their letter request at http://www.ottawacountysheriff.org/documents/Sandusky%20Register%20request%20for%20CCW%20Information.pdf). The newspaper decided to post this information online clearly in utter disregard for the law. Ohio Revised Code 2923.129 Section B states the following:

(2)(a) A journalist, on or after April 8, 2004, may submit to a sheriff a signed, written request to view the name, county of residence, and date of birth of each person to whom the sheriff has issued a license or replacement license to carry a concealed handgun, renewed a license to carry a concealed handgun, or issued a temporary Continue reading Ohio Newspaper Breaks the Law in Publishing Conceal Carry Permit Holders
