In 1949, President Truman set aside the third Saturday of May to honor the men and women who make up the various branches of the Armed Forces. Armed Forces Day was to be a single day to commemorate the military, replacing the separate days that the Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force celebrated. While this day is celebrated among the military and their families, it is often overlooked by non-military. This year the Eastern Ohio Concerned Citizens hopes to change that. They will be sponsoring the Armed Forces Appreciation TEA Party Rally on Saturday, May 15, from 12:00-1:30 pm at the Harrison County Courthouse in Cadiz, Ohio.
We have men and women serving in Afghanistan, Iraq and other parts of the world. They choose to serve their country. Often they miss important events in the lives of their families; sometimes they are injured or worse, making the ultimate sacrifice. Where would we be if people of great character had never stepped up to fight for our fledgling country many years ago? Today our military is filled with men and women of equal character. Every person that has served or is serving this country is a hero and this Rally is just an opportunity to acknowledge that.
Slated to speak at this event is Chuck Moorhead, a retired administrator of the Veteran’s Administration and a veteran of the Vietnam War, and Dave Daubenmire, recent Congressional Candidate for the 18th District and inspirational speaker with Pass the Salt Ministries. There will be patriotic music by Roger Logsdon and Melanie Reynolds. For more information go to www.eocc-09.ning.com or call 740-624-0543.
There will also be a table for the Healthcare Freedom Amendment petition. If enough valid signatures are collected, this petition will put an amendment to the Ohio Constitution on the ballot in November that, if passed, will allow Ohio to opt out of the government mandated insurance. A nationwide effort to get information out and bring attention to what is actually going on inside the Beltway of Washington is coming to Ohio this weekend. On Sunday April 11th the Tea Party Express III will be rolling into the Cuyahoga county fairgrounds to rally the people of Ohio. This is a national bus tour that has been hosting a series of tea party rallies all across the nation and was launched from Sen. Harry Reid’s hometown of Searchlight, NV on March 27th and will conclude in Washington, D.C. on Tax Day – April 15th.
The tour will feature a wide variety of speakers which keep sounding the bells of what they feel is pulling American in the wrong direction. Their purpose is to say to those in Washington:
“You, the politicians in Washington, have failed We The People with your bailouts, out-of-control deficit spending, government takeovers of sectors of the economy, Cap & Trade, government-run health care, and higher taxes! If you thought we were just going to quietly go away, or that this tea party movement would be just a passing fad, you were mistaken. We’re taking our country back!”
Here’s the information for those interested in attending this event in the Cleveland area.
Date/Time:
Sunday, April 11th at 3:00 pm
Rally Location:
Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds,
164 Eastland Road
Berea, OH
Event Details
This Tea Party Express rally will:
1) Showcase all the different active patriotic groups (27 + canopy sites available under the grandstand), many more “table” locations
2) Promote specific issues and petition drives (7 special canopy sites available next to the grandstand)
3) Provide an opportunity for participants to meet candidates (near the grandstand).
The event will be open to the public and free of charge. Restrooms will be open, and one or more food vendors will be working. In case the grandstand is filled (2,500 capacity), attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. There is no restriction on bringing food or non-alcoholic beverages.

Editor’s Note: We will be posting the full audio of the debate once it becomes available from the Ohio18.com website. Thank you to Ohio18.com for bringing forth this first of four Meet the Candidate nights.
The Newark Advocate – by Jessica Alaimo
MOUNT VERNON — They arrived passing out literature with phrases such as “conservative revolution,” “truth in action,” “values we trust” and “America First.” The Tea Party spirit dominated the first town hall for candidates running for the 18th Congressional District.

When it came to their beliefs, values and ideas, there seemed to be little difference among the seven candidates. What differentiates them are their backgrounds and personalities.
Common themes for the night were the size of government, states’ rights, the national debt and national defense. If a candidate was pro-choice or anti-gun, they didn’t note it.
Candidates were not short on criticism of incumbent Rep. Zack Space, D-Dover. Space was invited to the event but did not attend. He does not have a primary opponent.
BEAU BROMBERG, OF NEWARK
Bromberg, a businessman and a youth pastor, was firm in his belief government is too big. While he said he supports cutting many programs, he said there should be more members of the U.S. House of Representatives, at a lower rate of pay, so they can be more responsive to their constituents.
Bromberg said he is electable, because he can rally both the Republican Party and the tea party activists behind him.
FRED DAILEY, OF MOUNT VERNON
This is Dailey’s second run at the seat, losing to Space in 2008. He is a cattle farmer and a former director of the Ohio Department of Agriculture.
To slim down government, he said cuts in social welfare and entitlement programs would be needed.
“We’ve made promises that people depend on, but we cannot live up to those promises.”
He expressed a need for energy independence by using the nation’s reserves of oil and coal.
DAVE DAUBENMIRE, OF THORNVILLE
Daubenmire, a former teacher and football coach, was by far the most religious of the group.
Many of the problems the country faces are a result of “God-fearing men and women not stepping into the public square.”
He was a strong proponent of smaller government and called for an end to people’s dependency on government.
While coaching, “I got tired of every kid on the tee-ball team getting a trophy at the end of the season,” he said. “We live in a society of feel good, touchy, feely things, everyone gets a trophy, everyone gets rewarded, and I’m sick of it.”
BOB GIBBS, OF LAKEVILLE
As the only sitting politician of the group, Gibbs, a small businessman, farmer and state senator, was called upon to defend several of his actions in Ohio’s state government.
First up was his support of a sales tax hike in 1993. He was straight forward and said he regretted the vote, that he had made it at the behest of party leaders and has learned since then.
He was asked about a bill he supported that allowed the governor to seek funds for a rail project. He said he had to because if the transportation bill didn’t pass other important projects would stop. He said he backed the creation of a controlling board for the project.
Like the other candidates, Gibbs was supportive of reducing government debt and supporting a strong national defense. He said Congress should provide more support to the armed services and veterans.
RON HOOD, OF ASHVILLE
The Democrats were the common enemy during the panel; however, Hood, a former state representative, said Republicans are just as capable as Democrats of making bad policy. He noted several instances in his career when he went against his own party.
He said he is electable because he is “battle-tested,” having won in two Democrat-leaning districts and having strong constituent relations.
HOMBRE LIGGETT, OF DOVER
Liggett, a Dover pastor, said he is proud of his lack of experience in both politics and law.
He said right now he doesn’t have health insurance and plans to decline the federal health insurance plan when he gets to Washington. He said he would donate his paycheck to charity, if elected.
**Editors Note: This is an inaccurate quote of what Hombre Liggett said. What he actually said was “No, I’d bring it back to the 18th district. We’d take a large portion of it and bring it to all the districts and begin to sow it into good causes.” This can be verified by listening to this audio clip
Hombre Liggett on his salary as congressman.
Liggett is an advocate for a flat tax, which would make the country more appealing to corporations.
JEANETTE MOLL, OF ZANESVILLE
Moll was strong in her convictions of being pro-gun and pro-life. A former judge, she said she is firm in her belief in the Constitution.
Her top priority, she said, is national defense. She said she is electable because of the foundation she already has built in the district. She said she has conducted 90 town hall meetings around the 16-county district already.

16th District Tea Party/9-12 Groups Host
The Republican Candidate Debates
(Canton) – All four candidates in the Republican Party primary for the 16th Congressional District have agreed to participate in the Debate scheduled for Tuesday, March 9 at GlenOak High School in Canton. The debate is being presented as a joint effort of four different Tea Party/9-12 Groups active in Ohio’s 16th Congressional.
The debate on March 9 will focus on jobs, the economy and domestic issues. A second debate is scheduled for March 25 at Wooster High School, and will focus on national defense, terrorism, international issues and core values. These locations have been chosen because the first debate is in the population center of the district, while the second debate is in the geographic center of the district. Both debates are scheduled from 7:30pm to 9:00 pm with the doors opening at 7:00pm.
“We are hosting a Republican Candidate Debate during the primary season as it is the best way for citizens to compare the different candidates, and make their own decision as to who is the best challenger for the incumbent for the 16th Congressional District,” stated Stephanie Bragg, Acting Director of New American Patriots. “We plan to host one or two debates this fall prior to the general election, with the incumbent Congressman debating against the winner of the Republican primary.”
The debates are free and open to the public. The candidates will provide additional information about themselves at tables near the auditorium. In addition the four Tea Party/9-12 groups involved in organizing the debates will also have tables to answer questions from the audience about the Tea Party movement, and how the average citizen can become more actively and effectively involved in civic participation. The organizing groups are Medina County Friends And Neighbors (MCFAN), New American Patriots (Ashland Tea Party), Stark 9.12 Patriots and Wooster 912 Project.
Noted Jim Woods of MCFAN, “All we have heard from Washington this year is how we must spend our way to prosperity, borrow our way out of debt, and transfer power over our lives to the government in order to be solve the economic crisis. I look forward to hearing some different ideas at this debate.”
Any additional questions regarding this event please forward to Stephanie Bragg at ashlandohteaparty@yahoo.com or to Jim Woods at jimwoods@mcfan.org.
The Mansfield North Central Ohio Tea Party Association, a non-partisan group consisting of concerned voters in Richland and surrounding counties is hosting a conservative candidate town hall meeting.
We spoke with Bonnie, the groups leader who stated ” We are bring together a true non-partisan event” there will be three Republicans, one Constitutionalist and the moderator, a Judge from Richland County Common Pleas Court is a Democrat.
She further stated ” we’re not happy with being shut out by the Republican party” and mentions that all of these candidates will defend the Constitution, support the 2nd Amendment and are 100% Pro-Life.
Those comming are:
Eric Deaton, U.S. Senate Candidate: http://www.deatonforsenate.com/
Steve Christopher, Attorney General Candidate: http://stevechristopher.org/
Sandra O’Brien, Ohio Secretary of State Candidate: http://www.sandraobrien.com/
Seth Morgan, Ohio Auditor of State Candidate: http://www.sethmorgan.org/
We were assured that order will be maintained as Bonnie pointed out that a few months back the Mansfield North Central Ohio Tea Party Association held a health care town hall where 900 attended without a single incident. A shock to Ohio Free Press as all the main stream media outlets had reported nothing but angry mobs and near anarchy at these events that resulted in many of the representatives going into hiding.
Each of the candidates will be given fifteen minuites for an opening statement and near the end of the event there will be a one hour Q&A session for the audiance to bring their questions and concerns. Bonnie said ” our goal is to educate and inform.”
The event will be Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at Mansfield Senior High School Auditorium 124 North Linden Road, Mansfield, Ohio. Fot those not familiar with the area the school is between Park Avenue West and West Fourth Street.
