The Eastern Ohio Concerned Citizens (EOCC) have resumed their meetings after a break due to the holidays and weather. One of their main goals this year is to follow the votes and stay in touch with the newly elected officials. At one of the first meetings back, members signed letters to those newly elected in the Federal, State, and local governments. They congratulated them on their election to office but also let them know that they are expected to work towards the goals that they spelled out during their campaigns. In the letters, the members of the EOCC expect the newly elected to personally read every piece of legislation and not to have outside lobbyist write the legislation for them. It is also expected that no legislation should be passed unless it can be referenced in the Constitution. Additionally the group expects a balanced budget, that taxes be lowered until the Fair Tax system of taxation can be implemented, elimination of “earmarks/pork projects”, and that government spending be reduced. The EOCC also requested to meet personally with the elected official periodically either through an in office meeting or town hall type format. They stated that they believe the elected must not lose touch with the people who voted them in.
WASHINGTON – U.S. Congressman Bob Gibbs today introduced his unprecedented constituent outreach initiative that will be a first-of-its-kind program to meet with constituents in their own communities. He also announced the opening of his district office in Zanesville, Ohio.
“The 18th district is literally the size of New Jersey which, in the past, has left constituents feeling like they didn’t receive the services they needed from their Member of Congress,” said Gibbs. “One of my promises in the campaign was to be more accessible and our outreach program will make sure we hear the priorities of each community.”
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Congressman Bob Gibbs today announced the schedule of his first series of town hall meetings in Ohio’s 18th Congressional District.
“Washington has done enough talking, taxing and spending over the past few years. While Americans have been speaking out, Washington has ignored our concerns,” said Gibbs. “I plan to change that. I am hosting these town hall meetings so that I can hear directly from my constituents about their concerns and the issues they face. I will also give an update of what is happening in Washington and how I plan to address the crisis of record deficits and debt. I encourage the public to attend and participate in these town halls so that together, we can eliminate the gap between the people and Washington.”
Congressman Gibbs will take questions and address important issues for Ohio and the nation at each event. Good Morning America on Sunday recapped the liberal One Nation rally held on the nation’s capital, Saturday, but skipped any mention of the socialist and Communist themed signs seen during the march.
These are some of the signs that were featured during reporter Tahman Bradley’s segment: “”Peace, justice, equality, hope, change,” “Fair trade, not free trade,” “Educate every child,” “Full and fair employment” and “Silence GOP lies.” However, signs with the Communist Party USA logo, posters reading “Capitalism is failing, socialism is the alternative” and “Build a socialist alternative” were not. [Pictures can be found here. Video, here.]
Instead, Bradley repeated Democratic talking points: “Several speakers and people in the crowd noted the diversity at the rally. Their insinuation, the Tea Party movement has attracted only a narrow slice of Americans.”
A special thanks to AforPfor posting this video of the Socialist protesters and paraphernalia that dominated the left-wing protest rally in Washington, DC this past weekend. The so-called “One Nation” rally was led by labor unions as an attempt to counter Glenn Beck’s Restoring Honor Rally, which took place in DC on 8-28-2010.
A great report on how the One Nation event attendees really appreciated and took care of the nation’s capital is depicted in photographs at Marooned in Marin’s website.
And now, a great comparison of participants…. If the Glenn Beck rally, as reported by the mainstream media, only had 30-50,000 people, then that would make an estimated 20-50 people total at the One Nation rally this past weekend, right?
Medina, OH (September, 9, 2010)- As post-Labor Day election efforts begin in earnest, a coalition of local grassroots leaders and tea party activists are joining together with American Majority Action to open the Northern Ohio Liberty Headquarters in Medina, OH on September 14, 2010 from 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm.
