The Ohio Liberty CouncilBy: Michael E. Neal Recently I was given a opportunity to speak with the three candidates running for Huron County Commissioner. You can’t drive anywhere in Huron County without seeing their signs which is an indication of their enthusiasm towards this race. This political battle is between Democrat Incumbent Mike Adelman, Republican Joe Hintz and Independent Jim Ewell. Mike Adelman from Monroeville has held the seat for the past 10 years. Joe Hintz and Jim Ewell both reside in Norwalk.

President Obama appeared at a lackluster event in Boston where the room with a meager 3000 person capacity couldn’t even be filled, something the almost never happens for a Presidential appearance. He then proceeded to spend the majority of his time trashing Coakley’s opponent in between shouted downs by anti abortion protesters. The result was nothing short of a complete blowout.

NAFTA- NOT A FAIR TRADE AGREEMENT
All of our political leaders are trying to figure out how to get our economy going. On the conservative side the theory is cut taxes leaving everyone more money to spend. They believe it will create more jobs. The liberals want to tax high income people and use the money to create government financed jobs. When the people spend their earnings it will create jobs..
Both theories have the same flaw,the money earned and spent will leave the U. S. because the goods and services they will buy have been outsourced thanks to the free trade agreements of the last three presidential administrations.
A democrat controlled congress gave republican president George Bush Sr. fast track authorization to negotiate NAFTA. He left office before he could get it ratified so Bill Clinton took over and got it passed.
Bill Clinton got a lot of trade deals past, but his biggest accomplishment was most favored nation for China. We also became members of GATT, and WTO. He used his power of executive order to transfer technology of our missle guidance system to China.
George bush Jr. never met a trade deal he didn’t like and spent his entire eight year pesidency passing new deals. By the time he left office even our tele-market industry had been mostly outsourced.
Anytime someone would question the wisdom of these deals they would be called protectionists as if that is a bad thing. They say trade deals are good for America but they never explain how.
Chineese workers are getting a large pay increase this year from $130.00 dollars a month to $190.00. I can’t compete with that. Can you?
Our government is still looking out for us. They passed a law that will require us to use the energy saving light bulb beginning in 2014. It is supposed to save us money and save the environment. They contain chemicals that will poison the ground water after disposal and they are only made in China. China is now our largest creditor, but we still send them foriegn aid. We borrow money from them and then give it back to them as aid.
It makes me proud to be an American .
