It must be the most incredible job in the world. You get to stay at a $10,000 per night hotel in Hawaii right before you leave your job (on tax payer’s dime), fly on your own jet to and from work (from the California to DC and back), and get to spend like there’s no tomorrow.
Former Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, had accumulated during her 1,461 days as speaker over $3.6 billion per day. That’s right… three point six billion.
As the 52nd Speaker of the House Pelosi presided over the largest increase which was more than the first 49 speakers combined.
Here’s a breakdown of the numbers for the the 50th, 51st and 52nd Speakers.

New debt added: $5,343,452,800,321.37
Total days served: 1,461 days

Not a great track record. Let’s hope the new Speaker of the House gets his act together and actually does something about reducing this massive spending problem.
