The Ohio Free Press was able to talk to Lorenzo at the Tea Party Express III at the Cuyahoga county fairgrounds on April 12th, 2010. We aren’t really a ‘democratic republic’ in the modern sense of the term. We are a Constitutional Representative Republic with democratically elected representatives.

In the modern sense, a ‘democratic republic’ is a communist government, as in the German Democratic Republic (East Germany), or the Democratic Republic of Korea (North Korea). It is the way the term democratic republic has been used recently that has led to the confusion that many even in the Patriot and Tea Party movements have succumbed to.

To illustrate; About 7 years or so ago, the US Navy Reserve had a training program called “Who wants to be a Master Chief?” in which the question was asked, “What type of government do we have in the United States?” The distractors included ‘democratic republic’. This was played like a multiple choice game show of a similar name.

There were 2 teams playing against each other. I led one team, my supervisor led the other. After the 4 distractors were giver, Bob said, “The correct answer wasn’t given. We live in a Representative Republic.” The officer acting as ‘facilitator’ said, “Well the correct answer, according to the Navy, was given. So I chose for my answer – strictly to give what I thought would be the NAVY’S choice – ‘democratic republic’. I was right, though I was wrong.

Bob said, “Are you saying that the US Navy thinks we’re a communist country, like East Germany was or like mainland China is?” And my answer to him was, “Yes.” Boy, did THAT start the discussion going! Game was over for that day.

However, Lorenzo is quite correct otherwise. It has now come down to an oligarchy, government by the few (read Congress critters, administration and judicial officials), to which Lorenzo alludes.

He is absolutely correct about the government being limited by the Constitution, that the congressrats are our SERVANTS, not our masters. As soon as we get some who think THAT way, a la Ron Paul and yours truly, and as soon as we forget about Party affiliation and look at the candidate’s positions on the issues, we can start to take America back from the precipice of abject socialism on which we find ourselves.
