Did you get a pay raise like this?

Congress Salary RaisesWriteen by Brian Walker – Ohio Free Press

I just read an article posted on The Politico that stated that though the late Senator Robert Byrd who died earlier this year will still get a full salary next year. Well, his next of kin will…

A $193,400 salary will be split between Byrd’s seven children and grandchildren. That’s a nice salary for a dead guy. But what really drove me off the cliff was the following.

The Politico article stated “The practice has been long followed by both parties and in both chambers, including in 2007 when the widows of the late Wyoming GOP Sen. Craig Thomas and the late Rep. Paul Gillmor (R-Ohio) each received $165,200 for the salary that the two men would have received.”

In light of the current economical crisis, have you – the Joe Public who actually pays the salaries of these elected public officials, received a pay raise?

Let me rephrase that question.

Have you received a 5.5% +/- pay raise each year since 2007? Did you see your pay check increase $28,200 from 2007 to 2010?

No? Well, take heart.

Those who are making all these laws and making our economy just bust at the seams with super-low unemployment rate (sarcasm noted), and a barn-burning economy that is just creating jobs left and right (sarcasm noted) are the same ones who saw their incomes increase more than what many Americans live on in an entire year (no sarcasm there).

Remember. They are in touch. They feel your pain. They know what it is like to be in our shoes.

Make sure they do come November. But, unfortunately for you, most of  them will get a pension for the rest of their life unlike you will probably ever see (sarcasm noted).

Ahhh. Life is good. If you are an elected public official, that is.
