It was reported by World Net Daily that Bell Bio Energy, Inc of Georgia is rapidly working on a new form of creating hydrocarbon fuels, though this natural process has been occurring for millions of years. They are quickly pursuing the discovery of a genetically modified organism (GMO) that can turn any biomass material into usable hydrocarbon fuels used for vehicles, airplanes, jets, home heating fuels and more.
The United States Department of Agriculture and Department of Energy report that the United States produces 1.3 billion tons of biomass each year. This biomass is a result of waste products from plants and trees that is usually just left to rot or is burned. This biomass is not limited to just certain geographic areas such as actual oil deposits, but is found throughout the entire United States in abundance.
To produce fuel, the biomass is ground and mixed with water to produce a slurry material. This slurry is then pumped into large bio-reactor tanks where the genetically modified bacteria are added to the slurry which begin to feed
on the biomass resulting in a waste product from the bacteria that is actually hydrocarbon molecules – i.e. fuel. Each specific GMO produces only a certain type of hydrocarbon molecule. This means that if you needed jet fuel you would add that specific GMO to the biomass and get as a “waste product” jet fuel hydrocarbons.
Utilizing this procedure two barrels of hydrocarbon fuel is produced from each ton of biomass waste material. This means just within the continental United States borders we could produce 2.6 billion barrels of hydrocarbon fuel each year or 7.1 million barrels of completely renewable fuel per day. The United States currently uses 20.6 million barrels of oil each day and we import 12.4 million barrels per day. That means we supply about 8.2 million barrels of our own fuel per day. Adding in the 7.1 million produced from the bio-mass we would be at 19.5 million barrels of fuel per day – only importing 5.3 million barrels. This would result in a much less dependent relationship on foreign nations who may or may not be friendly to America and our interests.
An interesting side note to this process is that for those concerned about global warming, utilizing GMO’s results in a net carbon footprint of 0 carbon emissions. The plants utilize carbon from the atmosphere to grow, and when the bio mass is converted and burned as a fuel that carbon is released once again into the atmosphere so that the entire process can begin again.
A great video to help you understand this process can be found on the Bell Bio-Energy website at http://www.bellbioenergy.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=19&Itemid=36.
What could this mean for America? At a cost of $78 per barrel (as of writing this article) would result in $553.8 million dollars per day or $202 billion dollars per year that we would be able to put back into our OWN economy. These figures are not even taking into account the jobs that would be created within this new industry.
The technology that Bell Bio-Energy is working on has captured the interest of the Federal government – especially the military. Since we rely so heavily upon imported oil supplies this puts the nation in a peculiar national security risk by relying upon oil from outside countries. The US military is considering this type of fuel production a priority as it would allow for nation defense independence to help secure and keep our country safe.
