Correspondent Vic Roth reported from Washington DC that after speaking with Congressman Zack Space he said he will be voting against the health care bill currently being pushed through Congress.
Listen to the Ohio Free Press audio of Zack Space on the Obama Health Care Overhaul issue.
It was 2:28 pm on Saturday March 20, 2010 when the Congressman appeared with a smile on his face and a friendly hello to those who had been working the halls of the Cannon Building looking for any open door of somewhat elusive Congressional representatives.
Mr. Space very quickly invited a small group of about sixteen into his office and staff closed the door to maintain a quite atmosphere. His friendly, soft spoken demeanor was well received by what was almost a year ago described as angry mobs. This group of husbands, wives, nurse practitioner and small business owners were very respectful towards the Congressman but a sense of urgency was in their voices.
The simple question of how he was voting was not even asked yet Congressman Space got right to the point. ” Look, this is not an easy vote for anybody. I’m firmly convinced that we have to do something about our health care delivery system in America. I think everyone agrees with that, almost everybody. There are a lot of good reasons for it and I think you guys know as well as I do what they are. um I have been giving this a lot of thought, I’ve been listing to my constituents, I’ve been watching the process, I’ve been studying the bill, um and been thinking of the long term implications and while I would very much like to be able to vote for a comprehensive health care bill that works, I’m afraid I can not vote for this one”
A simple “yes” was announced from an attendee followed by applause by everyone. Towards the end of the short meeting Zack says” I’m just here to tell you were I am and I’m not there on this bill and I’m not going to get there on this bill.” followed by a very heart felt “thank you” from the nurse practitioner in the room.
All the major news outlet keep talking about the 216 votes needed to pass this bill. It was very evident this issue is widely unpopular with the 25,000 or so who came to Washington D.C. to make their voices and opinions clear.
